THE BODDICKER-CHARIPAR
LENTEN PROJECT 2019

Lisa & Mike Boddicker and their family and friends raised the funds to provide clean water to the children at Shades of Hope School in Tanzania. Shades of Hope was able to tap into the government water system. This Lenten Project also provided two 5,000-liter holding tanks to ensure the children always will have clean water. The water has been connected to the new “Sara’s Kitchen” at Shades of Hope, funded by Richard & Mary Margaret Stepanian, and dedicated in memory of Sara Stepanian. The water also has been connected to the school’s sanitation system to provide running water for the toilets. The impact of clean water is far-reaching to these children’s families, as well as people in the community who now have access to the water.

Clean water is something most of us in the United States take for granted. Just some of the facts:

  • Over one billion people in the world live without access to clean water

  • Annually, five million people die unnecessarily because of illness related to the lack of potable water - half of them are children under the age of five.

  • One child dies from lack of clean water every 12 seconds.

  • People with water-borne diseases occupy more than 50% of the hospital beds across the world.

Because of this project, a school and its surrounding community have clean water. The children were so excited to watch the construction, and are even more excited to drink the water flowing from the pipes into the school. This project would not be possible without the love and financial support of the following people who so graciously donated:

  • Lisa & Mike Boddicker

  • Bill & Brenda Brecht

  • Gary & Annette Cridlebaugh

  • Gary & Mary Charipar

  • Dean & Chris Schulte

  • Curt & Karen Woods

  • Patricia Charipar
