Jenn Lake at Flamboyant Special School

During our visit to Flamboyant Special School in June 2023, Scott’s Legacy dedicated “Jenn Lake” in memory of Jennifer Powell Smith, who became an angel in October 2021. Jennifer loved fishing with her dad, Boog Powell (both pictured), and her brother J.W. Jenn Lake was funded by Jennifer’s Dad, Boog Powell. Boog, a former Major League Baseball player, has been an amazing supporter of our projects and work both in Africa and here in the states.

Students will manage the fish pond as they learn valuable life skills. The pond also will create a feeding program to provide students with nutritional meals. The surplus fish will be sold at local markets to economically benefit FSS and provide some funds needed to restock the pond with fisherlings (small fish). FSS's goal is to contribute towards self-economic sustainability and create a clean health environment as they seek to provide quality education and life skills to special educational needs children from vulnerable families.

Bob Wall coordinated the donation of fishing equipment from Tochterman’s Fishing Tackle in Baltimore, MD.  The children have enough rods, reels, hooks, and other equipment for years to come.  We gave them Poppy’s Tackle Box filled with fishing equipment belonging to Scott’s grandfather, James Hock, Sr.

Jenn Lake is a very special place and we know that she is smiling on this project from heaven ... holy carp!
