THANKS FOR GIVING A CRAP!

When we traveled to Tanzania in October 2025 to visit and work on our projects, we learned that new government regulations now require all orphanages to have separate toilets for boys and girls, as well as kitchens that are detached from living quarters. Many of the orphanages we support have been doing the best they can with limited resources—often sharing a single bathroom and cooking over a wood-burning fire pit. We knew we had to help.

Familia Ndani ya Familia Orphanage (“Family Within Family”), Hope Orphanage, and Jubilance Orphanage were in the most urgent need of new kitchens and bathrooms. Together, these three orphanages care for nearly 100 children.

The cost to build two bathrooms and one kitchen at each orphanage was $10,000. We reached our goal of $30,000 thanks to a matching grant from the Kevin Myers Family Foundation. Many of you may remember this foundation for matching donations for the clean water project at NASA Nursery School and for providing a school bus for the Flamboyant Special Needs School in Zambia. With their support, every dollar you gave was matched, helping us raise the $15,000 needed to complete all three projects.

Funds raised built a beautiful Sara’s Kitchen at Familia Ndani ya Familia creating a safe, healthy place for meals and community.

Below you will see photos of Familia’s brand new Sara’s Kitchen, storage and bathroom stalls named Johnny’s John, Janey Poo, Camby’s Shedhouse and the Healy Throne at Familia Ndani ya Familia. Construction is underway to build Luke’s Loo and 3 other bathrooms at Hope Orphanage. We will keep you posted! Asante Sana (Thank you very much).
