CAN YOU GIVE A CRAP?
When we traveled to Tanzania in October to visit and work on our projects, we learned that new government regulations now require all orphanages to have separate toilets for boys and girls, as well as kitchens that are detached from living quarters. Many of the orphanages we support have been doing the best they can with limited resources—often sharing a single bathroom and cooking over a wood-burning fire pit. We knew we had to help.
Familia Ndani ya Familia Orphanage (“Family Within Family”), Hope Orphanage, and Jubilance Orphanage are in the most urgent need of new kitchens and bathrooms. Together, these three orphanages care for nearly 100 children.
The cost to build two bathrooms and one kitchen at each orphanage is approximately $10,000. Our total goal of $30,000 is ambitious—but thanks to a matching grant from the Kevin Myers Family Foundation, it is within reach. Many of you may remember this foundation for matching donations for the clean water project at NASA Nursery School and for providing a school bus for the Flamboyant Special Needs School in Zambia. With their support, every dollar you give will be matched, helping us raise the $15,000 needed to complete all three projects. That’s why we’re bringing back the “CAN YOU GIVE A CRAP?” campaign.
In 2019, we successfully raised funds to build toilets at NASA Nursery School, and once again we are offering “naming rights” for bathroom stalls. For a donation of $500, you can choose a name to be painted above the door—think Patty’s Potty or Terry’s Toilet. Donations may be made in honor or memory of someone special, and your dedication will be recognized on our website.
Funds raised will also support Sara’s Kitchen, our program to build a kitchen with an attached dining hall at each orphanage—creating a safe, healthy place for meals and community.
We hope you can GIVE A CRAP and help us help children who have so very little.
Asante Sana (Thank you very much).
