FLAMBOYANT SPECIAL NEEDS SCHOOL

receives sorely-needed bus

A new transportation vehicle for Flamboyant Special Needs School in Mazabuka, Zambia, Africa has been at the top of their Wish List for a while; however, it seemed unattainable. At Scott's Legacy, we knew their transport van was operating on its "last wheel" and wanted to help.

For many of the school's 118 students, the van is the only transportation to school. When it wasn't working (sometimes over multiple days), the children were forced to miss school. Plus, with the use of only one van and limited seats, other children continued to face transportation issues, too.

Flamboyant's wish came true when the Kevin E. Myers Family Foundation in Maryland partnered with the Scott Willis Legacy Foundation to provide the funds to purchase a pre-owned bus. On January 18, 2023, the 2005 Nissan Civilian bus (with 48,000 miles) arrived at Flamboyant Special School! It departed Yokohama, Japan mid-December 2022 and was shipped to the port of Dar Es Salaam in Africa. There, Brother Floyd of Flamboyant drove the van on a 13-hour journey to the school in Mazabuka. The van holds 26 students (compared to only 11 in the old van) and will help the school with transportation needs moving forward.

When the students saw the van arrive, Brother Floyd said they chanted and signed, "We have a big bus! We have a big bus!" An enormous THANKS is extended to Kevin Myers and his family for supporting Scott's Legacy's ability to check off this vital item from Flamboyant's Wish List, as we help to provide a brighter future for multitudes of vulnerable children in extremely poor villages of Africa.

When we traveled to Flamboyant in June 2023, we dedicated the bus in honor of Sr. Claudia Bradley, from the Sisters of Mercy. It was Sr. Claudia who introduced Scott’s Legacy to Flamboyant and we are forever grateful.
