Wyatt’s Garden at Mama Jane’s Orphanage in Tanzania

WYATT’S GARDEN PROGRAM

Scott’s son, Wyatt, was just 5 years old when his Dad passed away. He is a kind and caring child and when we returned from Africa and told him about the children that live there, he was so worried that they did not have enough food. We told him we would build them a garden and name it after him. We told him that the children would help grow the vegetables, they would be able to eat them and then whatever was left over, they could share with their neighbors or sell at market to make money to help them. Wyatt has always been a picky eater but he loves cherry tomatoes. We promised Wyatt that every garden we planted would have cherry tomatoes so when he goes to Africa with us, he will have plenty to eat as well.

He often looks at the photos that Mama Jane sends us of the food the garden is providing. He always asks, “Grandma, how many kids do you think are eating out of my garden today.” Wyatt, we can promise you that every child who is hungry will find something to eat in your beautiful garden.

It is our hope that every school and orphanage we work with will one day have a Wyatt’s Garden. This year, Kate & Caroline Boddicker collected seeds for Wyatt’s Garden for their Grandmother to bring with her when she traveled to Africa.  We have given out over 5000 packets of seeds during our trips. The second Wyatt’s Garden will be planted at NASA Nursery School in the Makao Mapya Village when our water project is completed in early spring 2024.
